Writing a Short Film Script

Instructor: Lucas Abrahão

10 participants

2 months

In English

The course is aimed at aspiring screenwriters, guiding the participants through the development of a short film screenplay, from a raw idea to a fully realized first draft. In the final class, actors will be invited to do a read-through of the students’ finished scripts, so they can have a solid idea of how their writing works outside the page.

Each class is divided into two halves. The first consists of a theoretical approach, where the teacher presents and debates some of the core principles of screenwriting (logline, character creation, story structure, script formatting, dialogue). The second functions as a writer’s room, where students share their week’s assignments and get feedback from the group.

The working language in the course will be English – classes will be taught in English, and participants are also required to write their work in English.

The tutor of the course is Lucas Abrahão, who is a Brazilian screenwriter and script writing tutor currently living in Estonia.

Pärast kursust

“Writing for film is filming. What you write is not written to be published. It is written to be forgotten and to be transformed into something else. Into another kind of matter. [That is] absolutely essential.”
